What we do

Coventry traditional session, June 2006

We play traditional music from England, Ireland, Scotland and anywhere else. There are often a couple of songs in an evening, but the focus is on music. Anyone is welcome to join in – just tune your instrument and sit down with us.

The Beer Engine on OpenSteetMap

We meet on Monday nights at the Beer Engine in Coventry.

What's on this website?

The primary goal of this website is the promotion of the CovTrad session and helping the session's musicians. So there's music, links, information and news about our Monday sessions.

However, there's also a wider local folk and traditional music scene. There are gigs, folk clubs, musicians, singers and other sessions all of which are of interest to us and we'd like to see thrive. So you will find event listings and information about the local folk music scene.

Session blog

Well, today must be the day for doing stuff on the website. I've just noticed Jack's post. A year at the Beer Engine... it feels much longer, in a good way. So much has happened, lots of different visitors and great music.

Now, Jack will also be happy that I have at last posted his session recordings from the Tegeigwl festival in Mold, 2008. More great recordings and great tunes.

(is that too many greats?)

Well, it's now a year since we moved to the Beer Engine (we failed to notice that we moved last St Patrick's, but luckily there wasn't too much madness!). We've got a nice regular crowd of players and audiences, and the great beer and free suppers keep coming, thanks to Ian the Landlord, and Maureen and the plethora of people who help behind the bar when needed.

The great thing about the room is that we can make sure every musican get get a place round the table, so doon't hesitate to come along!

After a lot of work the new website is taking form.

As a major addition we've got recordings made by Jack Shuttleworth at the English country music weekend. The 2007 recordings all there (as Flac, Ogg-Vorbis and MP3), the 2008 recordings are gradually being added.

I'm not going to promise anything else yet, but we do have plans.... eventually.

It's Monday night, so I'm off to the CovTrad session now.

Wahey, Monday!

Seasonal Sessioning - we are running on both the 22nd and 29th of December - so come and enjoy a refuge from the madness, (by listening to melodeons how sane is that?)!
